Jefferson da Silva Alves better known as DJ Jamaika died this Thursday (23) in Brasilia . He was 55 years old and battling spinal cancer. The artist is death announcement was made on his page on a social network.
"He certainly would have left us with a message to follow our dreams and give ourselves a chance. His musical legacy will be eternal " the family said in a statement.
The rapper from Ceilândia was recognized for songs like "Tô só observing" "From powder to powder" "2 crazy people in Opala 71" and collaborated with artists like MV Bill . DJ Jamaika also participated in the film "Branco Sai Preto Fica" by Adirley Queirós released in 2015.
Two weeks ago the artist released the clip for the song "A rain" which he made in partnership with his daughter Saphira.
DJ Jamaika was hospitalized at Hospital do Paranoá in the Federal District where he died. The announcement of the disease was made by him last year. However the musician avoided commenting on the matter.
The rapper is death was mourned by fans on a social network. "The master is gone but his work will live on forever. Great DJ Jamaika " said one user. "His songs marked my childhood and adolescence ... He will never be forgotten he was and always will be a national rap legend" said another.
