Mexican comic and actor Xavier López, popularly known as "Chabelo," has passed away at the age of 88 due to abdominal complications. López was best known for his Sunday show "En Familia con Chabelo," which ran for 48 years from 1967 to 2015. He starred in around 30 movies and helped establish a new genre of adult comics in the 80s, dressed similarly to kids, which aired famously on Mexican televisions. López, who was born in Chicago to Mexican parents, became a doctor upon his return to Mexico but made his name in the entertainment industry. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed his condolences to López's family, saying he cannot forget his son waking up early to see him on TV over 40 years ago. López leaves behind a wife and several children.
