The chief statistician of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Dr Naeem Uz Zafar, said that it is not necessary for Karachi's population to show as 30 million after the ongoing census. About 60% of Pakistan has been enumerated in the country's seventh population and house count, which is being conducted digitally for the first time. Concerns were raised by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) over the population count in the port city, with Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari threatening to quit the ruling alliance and saying that the Sindh Chief Minister had grave concerns over the ongoing census. Dr Zafar shared that 140 million people had so far been counted in the country and 40 million houses enumerated and geo-tagged, and that the enumeration process would continue until April 4.
